Can’t see it in the photo but that Jetta has no license plate. That' s just a placard with the dealership name. The building in the back left is the police station.

I feel like that’s probably a paper plate taped up in the window

There is a plate on the dashboard that is good enough

My st ate doesn’t issue temp tags
![]() 09/08/2020 at 16:27 |

They don’t, but you can get a temp plate from your state and purchase a car in Mass, ask me how I know that.
![]() 09/08/2020 at 16:30 |

Oh, Mass. Maybe a CT/VT/RI/NH car.

If they bought the car in MA then they've taken it on vacation. An island off the coast is a bit out-of-the-way between the dealership and wherever they live.

I’m on an island off the coast. If that is a temp tag in the win dow, that means they’ve just bought a car and immediately taken it on vacation.

Unlikely doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

“ Unlikely doesn’t mean it’s impossible.”
So it’s a Jetta from the future sent here by aliens to destroy whatever semblance of dignity is left in the world by the end of 2020?

Non-zero chance.

Then I’m going to assume it was driven by squirrels. : )

Probably a cop.

Are sorority chicks usually cops?

Undercover?

it’s a new VW so it’s invisible anyways

I mean, immediate? They're good for 2 months (at least here).

Heh, I’ve seen lots of cars rolling around without plates during COVID...cops don’t really seem to care so long as you have proof of ownership and promise to get the car registered ASAP.
Just don’t get caught by the same cop twice. lol

I just guessed Jetta. It could be a Passat for all I know.
![]() 09/08/2020 at 18:43 |

That was fine while the DMV was closed, but most of the ones in New England have reopened by now. It’s hard to justify getting caught for this stuff when it’s very possible to get the car registered correctly.

All the states adjacent to us only issue for 20 days

I know a guy in Michigan that never registers his cars. He just rolls around with the title on hand, but no date on it. Whenever he gets stopped he’s like “oh I just bought it”.
This guy also rolls around without insurance. Oh the things you can get away with in the Midwest right up until such decisions bite you in the butt ...

Vermont issues 60-day temp registrations.

He's a libertarian, isn't he.

Nope.

In California, this was normal. They send plates in mail, dealer attaches small piece of paper to inside of windshield that shows documents have been sent.
I drove from California to east coast with an enclosed trailer with no plate. Plates arrived weeks later. I used th e California plates for more than a year.

Either that, or a sovereign citizen who’s bad at confrontation.

I guess his designation would be something like “Libertarian Left”? lol
His logic is that since he only gets tickets for this stuff maybe once a year, and the tickets are much cheaper than registering and renewing, then he has no real incentive to actually follow the rules.

And what’s he gonna do when it gets impounded?
![]() 09/09/2020 at 12:49 |

Good question! Considering this is a thing he’s done for years I’m amazed he hasn’t gotten a single car impounded. Likewise, in some of my local motorcycle groups some folks talk about having ridden for years without an endorsement without a problem. Blows my mind because improper endorsement is an easy impound and all it takes is a cop running the plate to see you don’t have the endorsement.
Those people aren’t even the worst. A friend’s distant relative has something like 10+ DUIs, constantly drives on a revoked license, and eventually he gets caught driving drunk again just to restart the process all over again.
I’m guessing - hoping - that enforcement for stuff like drunk driving and insurance is a little more serious out east?
